ROMAN STEPHAN OROBKO January 9, 1948 - August 21, 2014 After a brief battle with cancer, Roman passed away with family by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the age of 66 years. Roman was predeceased by his wife Judith in 1999. He is survived by his parents Michael and Maria, and his loving partner, Darlene Brochu. Roman is lovingly remembered by his sons Rick (Angela) and Allan, his brothers Emil (Maria), Leo (Linda), and Ollie (Diane), his sister Nadia (Calvin), and by his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Roman was born in Ludwigsburg, Germany on January 9, 1948. The family immigrated to Canada in November of the same year. Roman had a friendly nature, a very generous heart and loved to make people smile. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humour. His interests included cooking, gardening, fishing, watching sports and shooting pool. He often enjoyed playing a challenging game of euchre or chess. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. He was very devoted to caring for his parents in their old age. Roman will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but will live forever in our hearts. At his request, the family will be holding a private memorial service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Boroditsky as well as the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. Donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I met Roman a few years ago through Facebook. As soon as I met him, I thought, "wow, what a nice guy, and a true gentleman." After we met a couple of times for coffee, and him coming to a few of the Facebook gatherings I realised that my first impression of him was so right. Roman, dear friend, RIP. Missed, but will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Peggy Perrault (Friend) on: Aug 25, 2014

  • Roman was one of our neighbourhood kids, we played together as kids, then lost touch as the years went on. We re-connected a couple of years ago at my Father's funeral, but I was taken aback by his sudden illness and now his passing. Rest in peace Roman, you were a good man. - Posted by: Jim Cobb (neighbourhood friend) on: Aug 25, 2014
